Tyrus Books founder and former publisher Ben LeRoy will serve as executive director of the Independent Publishers Caucus (IPC) on a part-time basis. IPC aims to “foster a true and mutually beneficial sense of community among independent publishers, between publishers and booksellers, and with readers.” They note that steering committee (comprising Ibrahim Ahmad at Akashic, Terrie Akers at Other Press, Jon Fine at Open Road, Tom Hallock at Beacon Press, Bronwen Hruska at Soho Press, Fiona McCrae at Graywolf, Michael Reynolds at Europa Editions, and Dan Simon at Seven Stories) will “continue to set the agenda for the group.”
Ingram Publisher Services will begin distributing Anthology Editions, Trope Reader, Gestalten, and Gingko Press.
The right-wing UK Independence Party (UKIP) suspended three members, saying in a statement, “It is understood that the three members were involved in an incident at the Bookmarks bookshop.” They indicated there would be a further investigation. The store had reported that 12 people participated in the invasion on Saturday. The perpetrators helpfully videotaped themselves, and though they took their video down after a while, it has been reposted, which should aid that investigation. (They enter the store around the 5:30 mark.) Their rallying cry is, “We love Trump.”
