Penguin Random House US to Open Export Distribution Center in the UK

Penguin Random House US will open a new distribution center in the UK to supply export sales to continental Europe, which ceo Nihar Malaviya says they “currently expect to be operational next year, likely summer 2025.” Those sales have been serviced from the company’s US warehouse. The company will also develop local UK-based printing of at least some of those US titles. Herman Parish, 71, author of 59 Amelia Bedelia books, died on February 10. Parish’s aunt Peggy Parish created the series when he was in fourth grade, and Herman resumed the series in 1995 after her death. The books have sold 55 million copies worldwide. His publisher Harper Collins writes, “He cared deeply about bringing Amelia Bedelia to life for young readers and about making the very best book possible. We will fondly remember his snappy bow ties, his anecdotes and stories, his humor and kindness, his vision and fierce dedication to the timeless Amelia Bedelia, and his magic with words.” […]

Employees at the Barnes & Noble on West 82nd Street in Manhattan intend to form a union with the RWDSU. The union will represent approximately 50 employees including booksellers, baristas, cashiers, maintenance, and all “non-supervisory employees.” They have asked the company to voluntarily recognize the union and have also filed an election petition with the NLRB.
