AG Recommends New Contract Language on Uploading Manuscripts to AI Tools

The Authors Guild has released new recommendations and shared a proposed contract clause regarding the use of generative AI tools in publishing workflows. The organization reports concern that publishing professionals are “uploading manuscripts and authors’ personal information into consumer-facing AI systems for uses such as generating summaries, assessments, and marketing copy.” Their new suggested contract language is as follows: “Publisher shall not upload the Work or any of Author’s personal information to consumer-facing AI systems for purposes such as generating summaries, assessments, or marketing copy without written permission from the author; and when such permission is granted, it shall use guardrails […]

HBG Gains 2 Percent in The First Quarter of 2026

Lagardere announced financial results for the first quarter of 2026, with publishing sales of €615 million, down 1.1 percent as reported and up 1.4 percent on a like for like basis. (There was a €24 million negative currency effec,t as the US dollar, British pound, and Japanese yen fell compared to the euro.) Like for like, sales at Hachette Book Group in the US grew 2 percent, based on strong frontlist titles. Tokyopop Launches Crowdfunding Equity Offering

Manga company Tokyopop announced a regulation crowdfunding equity offering, that will allow the public to invest in the publisher. They write in a release, “This offering is designed to provide growth capital to scale that model—investing in new IP, expanding development opportunities, and increasing the company’s ability to bring stories to a global audience. Rather than relying on single, hit-driven outcomes, Tokyopop is building long-term value through a diversified portfolio of IP that can scale across formats and markets.” Currently, the share price is $5 and the minimum investment is $1000.
