Hachette Book Group has launched their Author and Agent Portal as a “channel” within their business-facing site hachettebookgroup.biz. Similar to portals from Simon & Schuster, Random House and others, it includes unit sales information by title, weekly Nielsen BookScan sales data, an “interactive publication timeline for the 12 months prepublication,” a feature for sending large files between author and editor, and an online-piracy-reporting tool. Simon & Schuster will publish Bob Dylan‘s THE LYRICS: Since 1962, on October 28. They call it “the first comprehensive, rigorously annotated, and definitive collection of Bob Dylan’s lyrics to be published” and say it is the product of a collaboration “over many years between Dylan and a team of editors led by Sir Christopher Ricks, Warren Professor of the Humanities and codirector of the Editorial Institute at Boston University.” The full-color volume of 1,034 pages will be limited to a single printing of 3,000 copies, retailing for $200 each. Vintage will release nine titles by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, including LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA and CHRONICLE OF A DEATH FORETOLD, in English-language ebook editions on October 15. At the same time, Vintage Espanol will issue ebook versions of 18 Garcia Marquez works in Spanish. The deal marks the first time books by Garcia Marquez, who died in April, will be available in digital format in the US, and comes several months after the estate’s agent Carmen Balcells announced a preliminary deal to create a joint partnership with the Wylie Agency. NYT Book Review to Feature Mantel Serial
The title story from two-time Booker winner Hilary Mantel‘s forthcoming story collection The Assassination of Margaret Thatcher will run in the September 28 edition of the NYT Book Review as a first serial, available online as of September 21.
