'Rich Dad' Suit Settled

September 4, 2008By Michael Cader

Sharon Lechter, former partner of Rich Dad author Robert Kiyosaki, has received an undisclosed sum to settle her suit against Kiyosaki and his wife and has sold Kiyosaki her interest in the Rich Dad Co. AZ Central notes that “Lechter had alleged that the Kiyosakis had enriched themselves, diverted assets and wasted money in a business that she claimed to have helped build from scratch. Lechter also had claimed that she ‘often rewrote large sections’ of books she and Robert Kiyosaki co-authored.” Lechter left the company last year, and her suit was set for trial at the end of December […]

Rushdie's Day in Court

August 26, 2008By Michael Cader

Salman Rushdie appeared in London’s High Court to hear former policeman and author of ON HER MAJESTY’S SERVICE Ron Evans apologize and admit that the first version of the book contained 11 “falsehoods.” Rushdie told the press after the hearing to settle his libel suit, “It is a very difficult thing to do, to stand up in the High Court of London and admit to be a liar. If they do that, it is enough for me.” (He did not seek damages.) An attorney for Evans and publisher John Blake still tries to insist that they “have voluntarily removed the […]

Salman Rushdie’s lawyer Mark Stephens says that author of On Her Majesty’s Service Ron Evans has “accepted that much of the story published in the Mail on Sunday [excerpted from the forthcoming book] was false,” adding that Evans “was a police driver making out he was an armed special protection officer.” Stephens also says that “the authors have admitted that there were falsehoods in the original manuscript and have made amendments accordingly.” Publisher John Blake expects to have a revised version of the book ready for release next week.Guardian

July 25, 2008By Michael Cader

The AP says the Simon & Schuster has filed two separate suits in NY State court against female rappers Foxy Brown (Inga Marchand) and Lil’ Kim (Kimberly Jones) for books they did not deliver. The publisher says they paid Brown $75,000 in 2005 for an autobiography due on February 2006, and that they paid Lil’ Kim $40,000 in 2003 for a novel that was due in June 2004. Spokesman Adam Rothberg says, “both accepted the money and both books never were delivered.” Both women also served stints in prison, Kim in 2005 and Brown in 2007. I guess two was […]
