Wiley reported first quarter 2014 results of $411 million, just above even with a year ago but up 3 percent on an “adjusted” basis. Net income of $32 million was up 2 percent on a currency-neutral basis, but down $1.4 million in real terms following another in a series of planned restructuring charges. Barnes & Noble Postpones International Rollout Again
Barnes & Noble’s promised international expansion of Nook stores has been quietly postponed again. The last time the company delayed their timeline was in late July, in their delayed annual SEC report, which stated, “the company now expects expansion into these 10 markets to be accomplished by the end of 2013.” Now their new SEC report for the first quarter of fiscal 2014 pushes that target forward another 4 months, saying “it now expects expansion into these 10 markets to be accomplished by the end of fiscal 2014.” As a result of the continued delays, they may face a financial penalty […]

Don Sedgwick is stepping down as chairman, director, and shareholder in the Transatlantic Agency after fifteen years. He explains in a statement that “most of my days are now taken up as executive director of the new MFA in Creative Nonfiction at the University of King’s College (Halifax). Apple Final Judgment Is Limited, But Could Still Stir eBook Market
On Wednesday, Judge Denise Cote signed on the final judgment and permanent injunction over Apple in the ebook pricing case. The modified agreement is in line with the previous conference and draft, and was jointly submitted to the court by the DOJ, the state attorneys general and Apple.
