Diesel will close its Malibu bookstore sometime this summer, and has marked down inventory. Owner John Evans indicated to the Malibu Times earlier this month, “Their lease runs through January 2015 but Evans said part of the reason they’re closing early is because they won’t be able to afford six more months of payments. Evans also faulted Diesel’s location in the Country Mart for the store’s impending closure. Approximately 25 Let Go at Globe Pequot & Lyons Press
Two months after Rowman & Littlefield acquired Globe Pequot Press from Morris Communications, the Guilford, CT-based publisher has let go approximately 25 staffers, including a number of people from editorial and sales. Four Lyons Press editors and a manager were let go, as were the managers of Globe Pequot Press and Falcon Guides. In their places, Amy Lyons has been promoted to editorial director at Globe Pequot Press and Katie Benoit has been promoted to editorial director of Falcon. When Penguin Press announced their acquisition of Marja Mills‘s THE MOCKINGBIRD NEXT DOOR: LIFE WITH HARPER LEE in 2011, saying it was written with “direct access to Harper and Alice Lee,” Harper Lee’s attorneys released a letter in which the renowned author said, ” I have not willingly participated in any book written or to be written by Marja Mills. But the previous email addresses, for both penguingroup.com and randomhouse.com, will continue to work “in perpetuity,” spokesperson Stuart Applebaum tells us. No other Penguin Random House e-mail domain changes have been implemented yet for other territories.
New and Noted: Princeton Brings Back Backlist, High-End Personal Publishing, Plus Grandinetti and Pietsch
The Princeton University Press is beginning the rollout of their Princeton Legacy Library this week, bring back out-of-print backlist in ebook and on-demand editions available through Ingram Content Group. Over 1,200 titles will be released this week, with the full program comprising over 3,000 titles for reissue in “batches” through 2016. Press director Peter J.
