The Dayton Literary Peace Prize awards have been given to The Veins of the Ocean by Patricia Engel for fiction, and What Have We Done by David Wood for nonfiction. Canada’s Giller Prize announced their shortlist on Monday, with the winner to be named November 20. Three authors, asterisked, have been shortlisted before. DK Sells Rough Guides Business
Dorling Kindersley has agreed to sell travel publisher Rough Guides to APA Publications, which publishes Insight Guides and Berlitz. Terms were not disclosed. Reported in a statement from Penguin Random House in the UK, the Bookseller reports the company says DK will begin consultation with the 30 staff members who still work on Rough Guides. Sanders and Evashevski Leave UTA; Amicucci’s Barnes & Noble Settlement
UTA book department co-heads and partners Howie Sanders and Kassie Evashevski are leaving the agency and will join Anonymous Content as producer/managers, where they will establish a dedicated literary rights division. UTA co-president David Kramer says, “It goes without saying that we will miss Howie and Kassie as colleague. Baker & Taylor Expands and Rebrands Distribution Unit
Baker & Taylor is expanding on the distribution capacity of their sister company Bookmasters, relaunching Bookmasters’ suite of distribution services under the new banner of Baker & Taylor Publisher Services. Clearly aimed at competing with Ingram’s expanded distribution program and others, they have hired Mark Suchomel as svp of sales & client services and he will jointly lead the distribution business along with former Bookmasters general manager Ken Fultz, who has been promoted to svp of operations for BTPS.
