Jason Rekulak has resigned as publisher of Quirk Books after 18 years with the company, effective immediately, to pursue his writing career and other creative projects. There will be a transition period through March, and the company “will explore a new relationship with Rekulak” thereafter. Quirk president Brett Cohen will take on the role and responsibilities of publisher as well, and the company will search for an editorial director. Following our report that Ecco planned to pull an advertisement from the March issue of Harper’s magazine, after online rumors suggested that Katie Roiphe’s article would reveal the name of the creator of the “S—-y Media Men” list, Roiphe told the NYT that her article would not identify that person. Ecco pulled an ad from the upcoming March issue of Harper’s magazine after persistent online rumors on Tuesday afternoon suggested that an article by Katie Roiphe might reveal the identity of the creator of the “Sh—y Media Men” list. Harper Canada Finally Settles eBook Pricing Case
HarperCollins has reached a consent agreement with Canada’s Competition Bureau related to the introduction of agency ebook pricing there, a year after the other parties had settled. Hachette, Macmillan, Simon & Schuster and Apple all entered into consent agreements in January 2017, but Harper had resisted. They said, in part, “HarperCollins Canada is confident in its position that there is no violation of Canadian competition law and will vigorously defend itself against the allegations made by the Commissioner.” As a result, the Bureau asked the Competition Tribunal for harsher restrictions on Harper Canada. Bookscan shows tracked US sales of the hardcover edition of FIRE AND FURY of a little under 29,000 copies in the first two days on sale (last Friday and Saturday) — still enough to make the book No. 1 in a light sales week, and just the beginning with a reported 1 million-plus copies on the way.
