Jay Asher, author of the young adult novel Thirteen Reasons Why, filed a defamation lawsuit against the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, which in February 2018 indicated that he had been expelled from the organization the previous year after having been “found to have violated the SCBWI code of conduct in regard to harassment.” At the time, Asher said he remained a member in good standing of the organization.
