McGraw-Hill reported earnings for the period ending September 30, with sales of $542.6 million, down from $552.1 million. Net income also fell slightly, down $2.2 million to $53.4 million. Meanwhile, the company’s preferred, non-GAAP measure of profit, adjusted EBITDA, was up slightly, to $371.7 million from $368.2 million. Higher ed sales of $189 million were down $12 million, while K-12 sales of $252 million rose by $11 million compared to a year ago. Barnes & Noble Dismisses Blog Freelancers
Last week Barnes & Noble let go the numerous freelance bloggers who wrote for the Teen and Sci-Fi and Fantasy blogs, as part of the company-wide refocus on booksellers. Dahlia Adler, a writer for BN Teen tweeted that “every single freelancer at B&N” had been let go. Random House is promoting Andy Ward to succeed the late Susan Kamil, and in the second big change at the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group this month, longtime editorial director at Knopf Robin Desser will move over to the Random House imprint as editor-in-chief in January.
