Harper Collins will become the official publisher of Dr. Martin Luther King’s archives, acquiring world rights to all formats and languages, including children’s books, graphic novels, and audiobooks. Their first titles will be published in January 2022 in the US, to coincide with Martin Luther King Day. The company announced that the Harper One Group “will appoint an archivist to facilitate access to the material, which will be available to all Harper Collins editors globally. BINC‘s Survive to Thrive initiative announced awards totaling $1.1 million to 115 independent bookstores and comic shops facing financial challenges due to COVID-19. Grants include $10,000 for 99 stores and $7,500 for 16 stores. Longtime consultant (and our partner in Publishers Launch Conferences) Mike Shatzkin has joined with Dan Gerstein at Gotham Ghostwriters to found Gotham Publishing Solutions, providing “enterprise self-publishing” to companies and professionals. Gerstein is ceo, with Julie Blattberg as general manager and Laura Ferguson handling business development.

Imprints: Quarto and Bonnier UK’s New Lines
As previewed previously, Quarto will launch a new children’s imprint, Happy Yak, led by associate publisher Rhiannon Findlay. First titles will debut this summer, and the list will include board books, picture books, and more for children up to seven. The Bonnier Books UK music imprint led by Pete Selby will be called Nine Eight Books and launches in November with THE A-Z OF QUEEN by music journalist and author Mark Blake.
