It began as a splashy announcement tease: On Wednesday, young adult authors Marie Lu, Tahereh Mafi, Ransom Riggs, Adam Silvera, David Yoon, and Nicola Yoon declared in a deleted post on Instagram (and elsewhere) the imminent arrival on November 8 of Realms of Ruin, a “fantasy epic filled with dark magic, intrigue, and unique characters–launched online in a thrilling new way.” That new way, however, was quickly found to be less than thrilling among many people online.
