On Monday morning, Lit Hub published a lengthy piece by writer Jumi Bello titled, “I Plagiarized Parts of My Debut Novel. Here’s Why.” Her debut novel The Leaving was cancelled by Riverhead earlier this year over plagiarized passages. Lit Hub took the essay down just hours later, due to “inconsistencies.” Shortly thereafter, Twitter users noted a paragraph in the essay itself closely resembled text from other sources, including articles about the history of plagiarism.
