Knopf will publish activist and U2 frontman Bono‘s memoir, SURRENDER: 40 Songs, One Story, on November 1, edited by evp and publisher Reagan Arthur. Lit Hub Pulls Jumi Bello Essay On Plagiarized Debut Novel Due To “Inconsistencies” and “A Further Incident of Plagiarism”
On Monday morning, Lit Hub published a lengthy piece by writer Jumi Bello titled, “I Plagiarized Parts of My Debut Novel. Here’s Why.” Her debut novel The Leaving was cancelled by Riverhead earlier this year over plagiarized passages. Lit Hub took the essay down just hours later, due to “inconsistencies.” Shortly thereafter, Twitter users noted a paragraph in the essay itself closely resembled text from other sources, including articles about the history of plagiarism. Qatar Will Retain Lagardere Stock
Qatar Holding, a longtime major shareholder in Lagardere, announced over the weekend that it will not tender it shares to Vivendi, meaning it will hold on to its stock. The investment authority was given a board seat last year. They note in the press release, “Qatar Holding LLC may consider acquiring or selling Lagardère S.A. shares depending on market opportunities and/or applicable regulatory requirements.” Their decision should not affect Vivendi acquiring control of Lagardere in the tender offer, since Vivendi already controlled over 45 percent of shares before launching the offer.
