Bookselling: B&N To Reopen In Walnut Creek, CA

Barnes & Noble will reopen a location in Walnut Creek, CA on September 7. The store, which is located in Plaza Escuela, is in the shopping center adjacent to where a BN outlet closed in 2016 after 21 years in business. Thereafter, an Amazon Books opened a location in the same area in 2017, now closed following the company’s decision to exit multiple physical store businesses earlier this year. IBPA Updates Hybrid Publisher Criteria

The Independent Book Publishers Association has updated its criteria for what defines “reputable hybrid publishers.” This is the first update to the criteria since they were introduced in 2018. The new guidelines are made up of 11 points, and the IBPA specifies that hybrid publishers must meet all points: Define a mission and vision for its publishing program. Vet submissions. Commit to truth and transparency in business practices. Provide a negotiable, easy-to-understand contract for each book published. Publish under its own imprint(s) and ISBNs.
