Imprints: Oliver Rhodes Launches Storm Publishing

Bookouture founder and former ceo Oliver Rhodes has launched Storm Publishing, a new digital publishing company that will “publish adult commercial fiction in ebook, audio and print-on-demand paperback globally,” looking to buy world English rights at a minimum. The company writes in a release that it plans to pay “an author royalty of 50% of net receipts on both ebook  and audio formats,” though they do not pay advances. Bookselling: PRH’s Two-Day Holiday Shipping Returns

For the eleventh year, Penguin Random House resumes their 2-Day holiday transit program on October 15, running through January 31, 2023. As introduced last year, the program includes a “no minimums” requirement for independent bookstores. President, US Sales Jaci Updike says in the announcement, “In this time of ever-rising freight costs and ongoing shipping-company challenges, we remain steadfastly committed to independent booksellers in the all-important final months of the year.”

Third Quarter Deal Trends Show Continued Strength

So far this year, we’ve seen a record first quarter in domestic dealmaking, followed by a correction in the second quarter — which still was the second-best level in five years — and across both periods there was some weakness among the biggest deals, as well as a decline in total volume of deals from the Big Five on their own.
