As expected since CAA finalized their acquisition of ICM in late June, the agency has now formally acknowledged recently “bringing the agency’s translation rights business in-house.” Previously, ICM had a longstanding substantial co-agenting agreement with Curtis Brown UK, in which the UK agency had represented UK and translation rights to ICM titles. (Curtis Brown UK was itself acquired by CAA rival UTA in June.) Educational Publishers Settle Shopify Piracy Lawsuit
Five educational publishers–Macmillan Learning, Cengage Learning, Elsevier, McGraw Hill, and Pearson Education–have settled a lawsuit accusing e-commerce platform Shopify of allowing textbook piracy, Reuters reports. In a joint filing, both parties requested that the case be dismissed with prejudice so it cannot be filed again, and said that each will “bear their own fees and costs.” Representatives from the publishers and Shopify told Reuters that the case was resolved “amicably” and the settlement terms were not disclosed.
