European Commission Approves Vivendi’s Purchase of Lagardere After Spinning Off Editis
On Friday, the European Commission formally approved Vivendi’s long-planned acquisition of Lagardere, following the fulfillment of their “commitments” to sell the Editis publishing division, as well as the celebrity magazine Gala. Next, “The Commission will assess the suitability of buyers proposed by Vivendi in the context of a separate buyer approval procedure. Former Scribe Media ceo and president JeVon McCormick, who resigned when the company ceased official operations and laid off 87 employees two weeks ago, has apologized in a LinkedIn post, saying the way the layoffs were conducted “is not aligned with the values of Scribe” and naming himself as the company’s main shareholder. B&N Union Square Forms Chain’s Second Union
Booksellers and baristas at the Union Square, NYC Barnes & Noble voted to join the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, with 97 percent of the workers in favor. The union will represent more than 100 non-supervisory employees and contract negotiations will happen this year. “I am so proud of my coworkers and excited to move forward as a unionized bookstore and a member of RWDSU,” senior bookseller Jessica Sepple said. “We still have work ahead of ourselves, but today we have shown how dedicated we are to improving our store for ourselves and each other.
