Union Workers Stage Walkout at Barnes & Noble In Hadley, MA
Union workers at Barnes & Noble in Hadley, MA walked out last Friday, to protest staffing issues. The union says the store is understaffed. The walkout lasted from 2 pm to 5 pm. Staffers voted to unionize last May, joining the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1459.
BNED Adds Two to Board for Corporate Transformation
In their annual 10-K filing, Barnes & Noble Education announced the names of the two new independent directors of the board who will serve as the majority on a new committee dedicated to “effect[ing] a ‘Specified Liquidity Transaction.’” Steven Panagos and Raphael Wallander both bring “extensive corporate transformation experience” to the board. Emily Chiu and Dan DeMatteo have left the board. Panagos was the managing director and vice chair of the recapitalization & restructuring group at investment bank Moelis & Company, and led restructuring efforts at a variety of companies. AAP, Others File Brief Against TX Book Ban Law
Plaintiffs including the AAP and bookstores Book People and Blue Willow have field a brief opposing Texas’s motion to dismiss their lawsuit against the state’s book ban law, which would require retailers to place ratings on books. The next hearing is scheduled for Monday, and the judge is expected to make a ruling before the law would go into effect on September 1. In their filing, the plaintiffs write, “Plaintiffs have suffered an injury-in-fact that is traceable to Defendants and that will be redressed by injunctive relief.
