Per our earlier report, Simon Element has announced their new business imprint, Simon Acumen. According to a release, “Simon Acumen publishes books that help readers navigate the dynamic world of work. Authors include thought leaders, innovators, academics, journalists, and professionally curious people who blend theory and practice to provide fresh insights and practical pathways for readers to adapt, learn, and grow as they pursue their professional ambitions.” It is led by publisher Richard Rhorer and executive editor Stephanie Hitchcock, who moved to the new imprint in November. The Women's Prize for Non-Fiction announced six titles for its shortlist. The winner will be announced on June 13.
Forthcoming: Rebecca Yarros Announces Next Title in Empyrean Series
Rebecca Yarros announced on Good Morning America that the next book in her bestselling Empyrean series will be titled ONYX STORM. Entangled imprint Red Tower will publish the book on January 22, 2025. Yarros told GMA, “There will be politics, new adventures, old enemies and of course, dragons.” Yarros’s most recent installment in the series, IRON FLAME, sold approximately 585,000 hardcovers in its first week.
Obituary: Daniel Kahneman
Daniel Kahneman, 90, author of Thinking, Fast and Slow and winner of the 2002 Nobel in economic science, died on March 27.
Vroman’s to Close Hastings Ranch Location
Vroman’s Bookstore announced on social media that it will close its Hastings Ranch location in Pasadena, CA on May 12. The company has been in lease negotiations with the building owner since January, when owner Joel Sheldon announced his retirement and sale of the business. “We are disappointed to share with you that we were unable to reach an agreement with the property owner of Hastings Ranch that was sustainable, due to increasing occupancy expenses,” the store wrote on Twitter.
