The National Book Critics Circle announced its 30 finalists in six categories for its 2017 awards, along with three award winners. John McPhee receives the Ivan Sandrof Lifetime Achievement Award; Carmen Maria Machado‘s debut story collection Her Body and Other Parties wins the John Leonard Prize recognizing outstanding first books; and Charles Finch receives the Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Reviewing.
