Awards season starts to take shape with the release of the Booker Prize shortlist (with the winner to be named the week following the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 16). Esi Edugyan from Canada’s Washington Black (Knopf) is the only title in contention for more than one major fiction award this year, having just made the Giller longlist.
