The Booker Prize announced its longlist, with authors from the US comprising nine of thirteen slots. Last year, authors from the US were all but omitted, with only the American-born Lucy Ellmann included. This year, eight of the selected titles are debuts (Kiley Reid’s Such a Fun Age, Brandon Taylor’s Real Life, C Pam Zhang’s How Much of These Hill Is Gold, and more) and nine are written by women.
