Barnes & Noble will replace their out-of-stock Nook branded tablet with a new model from Lenovo. Like their previous tablet, the new model will be 10.1 inches and priced at $129.99, available as of April 5. After pulling their planned IPO at the last minute in September 2019 and broad layoffs during the pandemic, Endeavor is reported to have filed confidential paperwork for another public offering of shares with the SEC.
Oprah Picks Robinson’s Quartet
The latest selection for Oprah’s Book Club is Marilynne Robinson’s quartet of Gilead narratives: Gilead, Home, Lila and Jack. Winfrey said in the announcement, “As I was recently reading author Marilynne Robinson’s latest novel, Jack, I thought it would be wonderful to explore her entire Gilead universe through these four novels.” She adds, “Marilynne Robinson is one of our greatest living authors, and in the Gilead novels she’s written a quartet of masterpieces. Former Foundry Agents Lament Continuing Issues
Authors waiting for overdue royalty payments from Foundry Literary have been watching anxiously for news that the agency has secured new bank accounts after City National Bank served notice that it intended to close Foundry’s accounts at the end of February. An author reports they have been told by two people with direct knowledge of the process that the bank agreed to short extensions, with a new deadline to close the accounts of March 15. Frankfurt Book Fair Opens Registration for a Live Event
Frankfurt Book Fair organizers intend to convene a live, if smaller, exhibition this October, and have opened registration for the event. Organizers say, “This year’s book fair is planned as an in-person event with additional digital formats, and can be flexibly adapted to pandemic-related developments. E L James to Move Backlist to New Sourcebooks Imprint for Entrepreneurial Women
Author of the Fifty Shades Trilogy and other titles E L James will have her entire backlist distributed by Sourcebooks in print and ebooks starting April 1. James is the “keystone author” in a new imprint providing a “joint publishing model” to “entrepreneurial women authors who want to benefit from all that a top publisher has to offer, including powerful retail relationships and deep distribution channels.” The company says the role line will let “established entrepreneurial authors to take greater control in the creation, development and marketing of their books.” Pamela Jaffee will head publicity and marketing for the imprint.
