AAP, Others File Brief Against TX Book Ban Law
Plaintiffs including the AAP and bookstores Book People and Blue Willow have field a brief opposing Texas’s motion to dismiss their lawsuit against the state’s book ban law, which would require retailers to place ratings on books. The next hearing is scheduled for Monday, and the judge is expected to make a ruling before the law would go into effect on September 1. In their filing, the plaintiffs write, “Plaintiffs have suffered an injury-in-fact that is traceable to Defendants and that will be redressed by injunctive relief. June Adult Sales Made Up for Declines in Children’s
The AAP announced StatShot results for June, with trade sales flat at $586.6 million (compared to $590.4 million last year). Adult sales increased by 5.9 percent or $24.1 million to $430.7 million, offsetting a 15.2 percent decline in children’s sales, which totaled $155.9 million. In adult books, hardcovers earned $121.8 million, up 20.4 percent. Paperbacks gained 4.1 percent to $157.4 million, while digital audio rose 17.4 percent to $62.6 million.
