Bloomsbury announced a brief trading update for the first quarter ended June 30, reporting a 9 percent increase in sales. The company says that results have been “in line with expectations,” expecting sales of £273 million and profit before taxation and highlighted items of £32.5 million for the year. In the consumer division, Sarah J. Maas, Samantha Shannon, and JK Rowling remained top sellers. There has been a wave of Barnes & Noble store opening news, as the company continues to shift its footprint to generally smaller locations. On the Upper East Side of Manhattan, their much anticipated new 7,000 square-foot store at 1550 3rd Ave on the corner of 87th St. will open on July 19, one block away from the 55,000 sq-ft East 86th St. location that closed three years ago.
