HarperCollins “Continues to Stand By” Challenged Anne Frank Book
Yesterday, after Dutch publisher Ambo Anthos said it would recall copies of The Betrayal of Anne Frank, which was refuted by Dutch historians, HarperCollins announced that it would continue selling the book. “HarperCollins Publishers continues to stand by the publication of The Betrayal of Anne Frank. While we recognize there has been some criticism to the findings, the investigation was done with respect and the utmost care for an extremely sensitive topic,” a spokesperson said in a statement. Dutch Publisher Recalls Anne Frank Book After Historians’ Report
Ambo Anthos, Dutch publisher of The Betrayal of Anne Frank by Rosemary Sullivan, has recalled the book following a report that discredits the research. In January, the publisher had suspended further printing of the book pending further investigation. The book was based on research by a cold case team, led by a retired FBI investigator, and accused Jewish notary Arnold van den Bergh as the most likely person to have betrayed the Frank family and led to their capture.
