Danish publisher JP/Politikens has acquired a 70 percent stake in Norwegian nonfiction publishers Kagge and J.M. Stenersens, which together comprise Norway’s fifth largest publishing group. Politikens says the acquisition “fulfills its ambition to create a significant Scandinavian publishing group with strong, independent publishers in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.” They established Polaris in Sweden in 2017, and acquired Swedish nonfiction publishing house Roos & Tegnér in early 2021. Literary Arts Emergency Fund to Give $4.3 Million in Grants
The Academy of American Poets, Community of Literary Magazines & Presses and National Book Foundation have renewed the Literary Arts Emergency Fund (LAEF), which will give $4.3 million in emergency funding to nonprofit literary arts organizations and publishers affected financially by COVID-19. Created last year, the LAEF is again funded by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. PRH Waives Minimum Order Requirement for 2-Day Shipping to Indies
This year, Penguin Random House is waiving the minimum-retail-value requirement for independent bookstores ordering titles during the holiday season. From October 1 to March 1, indie stores can order any quantity and–“weather and transport conditions permitting”–receive it within two days or less. PRH president, US Sales Jaci Updike said: “The elimination of minimums will help booksellers become even more responsive to what their customers are looking for.
