Iowa Book Ban Suit Sent Back to Lower Court
On Friday, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a lower court’s decision that halted enacting a book banning law in Iowa. The decision, written by Judge Ralph R. Erickson, says that the lower court’s decision was “based on a flawed analysis of the law” and remanded it back to the district court “for further proceedings consistent with this opinion.” The suit, brought by Penguin Random House and joined by Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins, Macmillan, Simon & Schuster, Sourcebooks, and several authors, challenged an Iowa law that would remove from schools any book that describes or depicts sex, regardless of […]
Harper Earnings Grow as Audio Surpasses Ebooks
News Corp reported fourth quarter and full year sales, with a strong final quarter at Harper Collins: Publishing sales grew 15 percent to $512 million. Top titles in the quarter include Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton Series, Lucy Foley’s The Midnight Feast, and Sarah A. Parker’s When the Moon Hatched, with strong Bible sales, and improved return rates as well. EBITDA was $57 million, compared to $16 million last year, attributed to strong sales “and lower manufacturing costs driven by product mix, partially offset by higher employee costs.” The Spotify effect continued as well, as digital audiobook sales exceeded ebook sales for […]

Reportedly, many authors have pulled their books from DarkLit, and some say they are still owed royalties for books that have already sold. Some authors also report that their books are being sold on Amazon, despite having the rights reverted to them. A former editor also told PL that he is owed pay for working on several […]

The book was slated to come out from Broadside on September 24; Edelweiss and major bookselling websites now list the pub date as November 12. Roberts told Real Clear Politics in a statement that he decided to move the book. “There’s a time for writing, reading, and book tours – and a time to put down the books and go fight like hell to take back our […]
