Netflix to Launch Book Club
Netflix has announced the Netflix Book Club, highlighting titles that will be adapted to Netflix films and TV series. In a partnership with Starbucks, the club will launch a social media series, But Have You Read the Book?, to run on Netflix’s YouTube and Facebook channels. Uzo Aduba will be the inaugural host of the series, and will announce monthly book club selections and interview authors, actors and creators about the adaptations. The first selection for November is Passing by Nella Larsen, which will start streaming as a film on November 10.

PRH US Has Record Level of Export Sales
In a session at the virtual Frankfurt Conference, Penguin Random House svp, international sales and marketing Cyrus Kheradi shared that in the past year and half, the company “reached a record level of export sales for Penguin Random House US in all of our history.” As in the US, lockdowns worldwide created increased demand for books in English language markets, and Kheradi reported that PRH US saw double digit growth in many of their export markets, with the highest growth in the UK, Australia, Germany, France, India, Philippines, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. Bookselling: Tattered Cover to Open in Colorado Springs
Tattered Cover will open a store in downtown Colorado Springs in early 2022, aiming for between February 15 and March 15. Tattered Cover currently has five locations in and around Denver, as well as a pop up mall store, three airport stores, and another Denver-area location slated to open this fall. The 8,400-square-foot Colorado Springs space will be the store’s first location outside the Denver metro area. Its lease agreement “allows the retailer to make rent payments based on a percentage of its sales.”
