Isabel Allende has won the €1m Spanish literary prize Premio Planeta for her novel La hora antes del alba, a sequel to The House of Spirits that she submitted under a pseudonym. The Guardian writes, “The prize is open to unpublished manuscripts, with the option of submitting under a pseudonym, and Allende entered under the name Luz Ventura.” They add that it’s very likely that “the judges may have been able to pick up on Allende’s style.”
The terms of the prize dictate that the winning novel be published by Planeta. Allende moves to the imprint from has been PRH imprint Plaza & Janés, where she has been published since The House of the Spirits came out in 1982.
