Camille McDuffie is leaving her position as president of Goldberg McDuffie Communications to join the newly-created Columbia Global Reports as publisher, under director Nicholas Lemann. It’s a Columbia University-based publishing project “dedicated to the production of sustained, original reporting and analysis on under-reported global issues for audiences that extend beyond the academy,” and they will produce four to six short books a year, for publication beginning in fall 2015. On Monday, the Supreme Court declined to hear the appeal of NYT reporter and author James Risen, letting stand an Appeals Court ruling that he must testify as to whether former CIA officer James Sterling was the source of leaked, classified information Risen used in his 2006 book STATE OF WAR: The Secret History of the CIA and the Bush Administration. (The Court’s decision is in line with the full Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, which had declined to hear Risen’s appeal by a 13-to-1 vote.) Carmen Balcells and Andrew Wylie Join Forces for International Agency
Literary agents Carmen Balcells, and Andrew Wylie, are joining forces for a new international agency, Balcells & Wylie, according to a short two-paragraph email sent to clients of the two agencies and seen by Spanish newspapers. Rachel Wasdyke has been promoted to senior publicity manager at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children’s. Jeff Deutsch will take over as director of the University of Chicago’s Seminary Co-op Bookstore in Chicago on July 1. Atria Joins with UTA for Keywords Press Imprint, Publishing “Digital Influencers”
Atria Publishing Group has paired with United Talent Agency a launch an imprint “specifically created to publish digital influencers” — and YouTube stars in particular — called Keywords Press. The line aims to publish 6 to 10 titles a year, and it promises “new business, creative development and marketing models designed in recognition and celebration of the unique relationship between digital stars” and their fans.
