Now Tracking: Audio Dealmakers
We’ve made another adjustment to our big catalog of Dealmakers — tracking about 4,400 agents; 2,000 agencies; 11,000 editors; and 9,000 imprints over time on individual web pages of their transactions. We are now cataloging audio rights buyers — both individual editors and their companies — in Dealmakers lists and individual pages. The new feature includes data from the past 12 months, and covers audio rights buyers only, not sellers.
NYT to Launch Monthly Audiobook Bestseller Lists Later This Week
The New York Times will publish audiobook bestseller lists for the first time, on a monthly basis only, debuting online on Thursday, March 8 (and appearing in the March 18 issue of the Sunday Book Review). All of their bestseller lists will go live on the NYT website on Thursday mornings, instead of on Friday. Additionally, the paper expanding the paperback bestseller lists from 10 positions to 15, “in response to reader interest.” The monthly audiobooks lists will note the top 15 fiction and top 15 nonfiction audio titles from the previous month. Noted as an aside in recent coverage, Ronan Farrow‘s long-expected first book WAR ON PEACE: The End of Diplomacy and the Decline of American Influence will be published by Norton on April 24, 2018. Originally expected in 2015, Farrow’s book was first sold to Penguin Press in 2013 in a high-profile deal, reportedly for about $1.3 million. At the time, the working title was PANDORA’S BOX: How American Military Aid Creates America’s Enemies. Ralf Markmeier will join Harper Germany as managing director and publisher starting January 15. He succeeds Thomas Beckmann, who will retire in February, after 18 years with Harlequin and Harper. Markmeier was previously with Random House Germany, which he joined in 2003.
