For some reason the NYT thinks it’s news that celebrities use ghostwriters, but with the Kardashian sisters set to release a novel they “wrote” after Snooki’s ghostwritten novel hit the bestseller lists earlier this year, there’s the news peg for you. It’s also interesting that Atria’s Judith Curr traces the so-called celebrity novel boom to Pamela Anderson’s 2004 book STAR, which she published. Glenn Beck and S&S Expand Partnership and Add Imprint
Glenn Beck may be leaving the Fox News Network later this year but his longstanding relationship with Simon & Schuster will continue and expand thanks to a new co-publishing venture with his production company Mercury Radio Arts. Mercury Ink will launch this August as an imprint that aims “to discover, publish and promote books and authors that [Beck] is passionate about across a variety of genres,” co-publishing with Simon & Schuster. Eisler’s Next John Rain Novel to Amazon’s Thomas & Mercer
At our Publishers Launch Conference Wednesday afternoon, Barry Eisler announced that, rather than self-publishing, his next John Rain novel THE DETACHMENT will be published by Amazon’s new mystery/thriller imprint Thomas & Mercer in both digital and print formats. “What Amazon has offered is everything that was so great to me about self publishing on the one hand, but everything you want from traditional publishing,” including marketing and distribution. “I get the best of both worlds,” he added. Wendy Wolf has been named vp, associate publisher of Viking, where she has worked since 1994. She will continue as editorial director of non-fiction as well. Keith Richards’ LIFE (Hachette Audio) won Audiobook of the Year at the 2011 Audies, given out last night by the Audio Publishers Association. Authors: Roth Wins Man Booker International, with Controversy; Nesbo Opening Week Sales; and More
Knopf has been positioning Jo Nesbo‘s THE SNOWMAN as its big summer thriller breakout, and they report selling 20,000 total copies so far of the May 10 release – with digital making up as much as 65 percent, at 13,000 units sold.
