The National Book Awards announced their nominees on Wednesday morning, with the winners to be named on November 14. The fiction list gives 2011 winner Jesmyn Ward a chance for a second win, and includes two debuts, from Lisa Ko and Carmen Maria Machado. The Dayton Literary Peace Prize awards have been given to The Veins of the Ocean by Patricia Engel for fiction, and What Have We Done by David Wood for nonfiction. Canada’s Giller Prize announced their shortlist on Monday, with the winner to be named November 20. Three authors, asterisked, have been shortlisted before.
