Ian Buruma has been named editor of The New York Review of Books, succeeding co-founder Robert B. Silvers who died recently. Buruma has been a regular contributor to The New York Review since 1985, in addition to other publications including The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Guardian, and La Repubblica. He is also the Paul W. Williams Professor of Democracy, Human Rights, and Journalism at Bard College. George Coe “retired” from Follett on May 1, after being promoted to chief operating officer on March 31. The departure was announced internally at least two weeks ago according to anonymous message board postings. Separately, in March two Follett assistant store managers filed suit in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against the company, seeking class action status, alleging they regularly worked extra hours without being paid overtime.
