Earlier today we incorrectly identified Amber Ruffin as the host of the National Book Awards ceremony. Ruffin will host the finalist reading on Tuesday, November 14. A host for the ceremony has not yet been announced.

National Book Award Shortlists
The National Book Foundation announced its shortlists for the National Book Awards, with the winners to be named at a ceremony in New York on Wednesday, November 15. One thing we know already: Every author will be a first-time winner. Only three of the nominees have made a shortlist in the past: Pilar Quintana and Lisa Dillman were finalists for Translated Literature in 2020; and Monica Youn was a finalist for Poetry in 2010. Pulitzer Board Expands Eligibility for Authors
Beginning with the 2025 awards, which opens for submissions in spring 2024, the Pulitzer Prize board has changed the eligibility requirements for the books, drama and music awards to include “US citizens, permanent residents of the United States,” and authors for whom “the United States has been their longtime primary home.” Previously, only US citizens were eligible for the awards, with the exception of authors of history books, who could be of any nationality if their book was about US history. “For the sake of consistency,” the prize board said, history books must be written by US authors according to […]
National Book Awards Host Drew Barrymore Will Resume Taping Her Show Despite WGA Strike
On Instagram on Sunday, Drew Barrymore announced that she will resume production on her talk show despite the Writers Guild of America strike that began May 2. She wrote, “To be clear, our talk show actually wrapped on April 20th so we never had to shut down the show. Schroders Joins with FT As Business Book of the Year Award Sponsor
British asset management company Schroders has joined the Financial Times to sponsor the Business Book of the Year Award. The prize is also now officially billed as presented “in partnership” with the FT’s owner, Japanese media group Nikkei. Now in its nineteenth year, the prize was previously co-sponsored by McKinsey, which ended its affiliation with the award last year (and Goldman Sachs before that).
