William Morris Endeavor has hired former Microsoft chief financial officer Peter Klein. He will oversee the global finance operation for IMG Worldwide once that acquisition closes, along with WME. (Approvals for the acquisition are expected to take a number of months). We’ve logged another dozen lists on our aggregated Best of the Best of 2013 lists — most recently the Wall Street Journal’s favorite fiction and nonfiction; and picks from Lucas Wittmann and the annual can’t-miss from our own very well read Sarah Weinman. The NEA announced 38 recipients of creative writing fellowships, providing awards of $25,000 to each of the writers (or $950,000 in all). Recipients include Percival Everett, Daniel Mason and Justin Torres. Margaret Wrinkle‘s WASH won the Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Prize. Scholastic announced a number of recent new hires and promotions. In the editorial department, Anamika Bhatnagar has been promoted to publishing director, Scholastic Press, while Amanda Maciel moves up to executive editor, Scholastic. Oprah’s Semi-Annual Book Club 2.0[.3] will promote Sue Monk Kidd‘s Indie Next No. 1 pick THE INVENTION OF WINGS, set for publication on January 7.
