Oprah Will Resume Book Club On September 17–And No, It’s Not FREEDOM
Just under a year after selecting Uwem Akpan’s SAY YOU’RE ONE OF THEM, Oprah Winfrey is ready to pick another book for her audience to read. Newtonville Books blogged that they were notified by a Macmillan sales rep of the impending announcement, to air on September 17, when the Oprah-stickered edition will release. The selection is hardcover with a list price of $28 (confirmed by online bookselling sites, which also list the title for blind pre-order). People: Hochman Leaves S&S, and More
In the latest personnel change at the Simon & Schuster imprint–which announced a hiring earlier this week–editor Sarah Hochman abruptly told people yesterday via e-mail that she was leaving the company at the end of the day. Others at S&S say she was fired, but the company declined to confirm that. She can be reached at sahochman@gmail.com. Center for Fiction Renames Prize, Announces Shortlist; Thurber Nominees Named
The Center for Fiction (previously the Mercantile Library) has changed the name of their first novel prize–originally the John Sargent Sr. prize when launched in 2006–to the Flaherty-Dunnan Prize, due to support from board member and writer Nancy Dunnan and honoring her late father Ray Flaherty, also a writer.
