As you consider this year’s “official” Buzz Panel books–and all the other titles clamoring for buzz on the show floor during BEA–we thought it would be interesting to take stock of the performance of last year’s selections. Bear in mind that part of the point of the panel is to shine a light on a broad selection of books of potential merit and audience appeal that might not be top-of-the list sure things. So absolute sales numbers are not the only measure of success. But by most yardsticks, nearly all of the books featured last year met with some kind […]

Perseus Crowdsources Search for the 10 Hottest BEA Books
What does Perseus do for an encore after last year’s all-consuming Book: The Sequel BEA project in which they compiled a published a book live during the show? This year they are asking attendees to contribute their picks for the 10 most anticipated titles, across 10 different categories of books. Their publishing client The Daily Beast will cover results from the app on their site. And of course if your book is selected and you happen not to have digital distribution yet, Perseus’s Constellation will convert your book and arrange distribution. It’s not meant to be a crasher’s guide. (Hence the listing of times but not locations.) If you’re event is not listed, that means you didn’t let us know–send an e-mail and we’ll update as appropriate. […]

Icelandic Volcano Hates Book Fairs?
The Eyjafjallajökull volcano sent up a fresh plume of ash over the weekend, resulting in at least some closures of UK air space. As of now restrictions have been lifted for London’s airports, but clearly international visitors coming to New York for BEA will need to watch the situation carefully and may experience some travel delays.UK airspace siteMet Office update
