Carole DeSanti has been promoted to vp, executive editor at Viking/Penguin, returning full-time to acquisitions from the editor-at-large position she has held for the past several years. Distribution Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Trade Publishing will be distributed in Canada by Raincoast Books as of January 1, 2016, moving from current distributor Thomas Allen. In the US, Quercus is taking over distribution of the Teach Yourself line of self-instruction books and book-plus product, beginning June 1 with backlist titles and September 1 for frontlist. The line has been distributed by McGraw-Hill Education for the past 15 years.

RHCB Doubles Print Run For WHAT PET SHOULD I GET?
Random House Children’s Books has doubled the announced first printing for Dr. Seuss‘s forthcoming posthumous title WHAT PET SHOULD I GET? to 1 million copies to “keep up with demand.” The publisher also released an illustration from the book, scheduled for release on July 28. Distribution Columbia University Press Sales Consortium will provide sales representation for the University of California Press in the US as of July 1, 2015. Ampersand Inc. will represent UC Press in Canada.

The NYT reports that Alabama’s Human Resources Department has been investigating a complaint of possible elder abuse in connection with the planned publication of Harper Lee‘s Go Set A Watchman. They are doing so with the assistance of the Alabama Securities Commission. Investigators are said to have interviewed Lee, along with a number of her friends and employees at the assisted living facility where she lives.
