Digital publisher Diversion Books has set up a new division “to go deeper into the romance vertical,” EverAfter — which has launched an ebookstore and reader app on iOS and Android. “Exclusively dedicated to romance ebooks,” the store offers over 100,000 titles from traditional houses and self-published authors. Harper Offers Authors Additional Net Royalty For Online Direct Sales Referrals
As promised in July when HarperCollins relaunched their web site to focus on making their full catalog of books, ebooks and audiobooks available for sale to consumers, the company is now ready to provide additional compensation to “our authors who want to sell directly” via Harper’s shopping cart. Authors who add a linked HarperCollins “buy” button on their sites or directly integrate the Harper shopping cart will receive an additional 10 percent of net on those sales, to be credited through their regular twice-annual royalty statements. The new iPhones become available on Friday, but it is today’s release of Apple’s iOS 8 (at 10 am Pacific Time) that may present the company’s biggest opportunity since the debut of iBooks in 2010 to build a meaningful market presence for their ebookstores. Kobo has had a Dutch ebookstore since early 2012, launched in cooperation with local retailer Libris Blz, and now they have partnered with Bol.com, “the largest provider of ebooks in the Netherlands and Belgium.” BookShout has an agreement with premium supplier Forest Incentives that will enable public radio and TV stations to provide ebooks as gifts to their contributing members. Sainsbury’s is now the sole owner of fledgling ebookstore Anobii, the Bookseller reports, buying out Penguin Random House’s 24 percent stake and Harper UK’s 12 percent stake. (The company first acquired HMV’s 64 percent stake in Anobii in 2012.) Sainsbury’s said the move “gives it full control of the platform as part of its growing Sainsbury’s Entertainment digital offer”, with plans to expannd its current website selling film, music and books. Google Play Books is in the process of adding 13 countries to the roster of territories where their service is live. Norway, the Netherlands and Colombia have already been added, with Paraguay, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Ecuador, Uruguay, Panama, Honduras, and Dominican Republic coming soon. A Google Plus post announced the new additions prematurely, but they will bring the service up to 55 countries in all.
