Atwood Drops Out of Dubai Festival
Margaret Atwood has pulled out of the Emirates Airline International Festival for Literature in the wake of the fair’s decision to cancel the launch of Geraldine Bedell’s The Gulf Between Us because of the inclusion of a gay character. Other authors due to appear at the festival, including bestselling children’s authors Anthony Horowitz and Lauren Child, are now also reconsidering whether to attend. A New Addition to the Frankfurt Schedule
Next Thursday night at the Frankfurter Hof hotel, publishing colleagues will honor the late Tracy Howell by gathering for drinks and a raffle to benefit the Tracy Walker Howell Memorial Fund. The nonprofit is endowing a scholarship at Middlebury College, which Howell attended, for a student with an interest in literature to spend a year at the C.V. Starr-Middlebury School in Italy. AAP Reschedules for November
The AAP’s annual meeting for Smaller and Independent Publishers, abruptly scrubbed right before BEA due to light publisher interest, has been rescheduled in New York on November 7 at the Scholastic auditorium. Still called Starting….Growing…Maturing….How to Successfully Navigate the Life Cycles of an Independent Publishing House, the program features many of the same speakers and panels originally lined up for the pre-BEA meeting.
