Skyhorse Publishing announced “a major reorganization” that includes significant job cuts and plans to reduce their new-title output. The company says that 16 full-time positions were eliminated from a workforce that had totaled 77 people, and they plant to reduce new titles published by “approximately 25 percent” in 2018, down from an abundant 1,120 titles published in 2017. Barnes & Noble Preserves Their Dividend, Investors Respond
After warning on their quarterly earnings investor call that the company board would “review the upcoming dividend payment,” Barnes & Noble announced Wednesday after the close of the market that the board had in fact approved another standard dividend of 15 cents a share. After approving a budget for fiscal 2019, which begins in the middle of this calendar year, the company also declared guidance of EBITDA “in a range of $175 million to $200 million” for the coming year. Harper Acquires AMACOM
Harper Collins announced it has acquired the trade book assets of AMACOM from the American Management Association International. That means they bought the list, without the accompanying infrastructure. Their 600-title catalog will be run as a sub-imprint of the recently launched Harper Collins Leadership line, based in Nashville. HCL publisher Jeff James will oversee AMACOM business development, marketing and editorial. IACP Rescinds Awards Given to CEO; Parragon Books Plans to Close Worldwide
The International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) announced their annual cookbook awards across 20 categories on Sunday (plus five books that were named “culinary classics”) — and then rescinded two awards, including “cookbook of the year,” given to Six Seasons: A New Way With Vegetables, by Joshua McFadden with Martha Holmberg.
