Simon & Schuster announced it will publish THE PRIVATE WAR OF JD SALINGER, a new “oral biography” co-written by film producer Shane Salerno and David Shields, in September. Remember back when a different author was driving eye-popping sales for Random House, Inc.? Author Dan Brown returns on May 14 with a new thriller, INFERNO, once again featuring his recurring character Robert Langdon, a Harvard symbologist and set to be published in North America by Doubleday, Transworld in the UK, and in audiobook format by Random House Audio. The publisher announced a first printing of 4 million copies. Random House’s Doubleday imprint will issue hardcover editions (at $26.95 each) of EL James’s Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy on January 29. They are starting with a total of 200,000 copies of the three hardcovers–compared to sales of over 35 million units in the US so far for the paperbacks and ebook editions, and 65 million units worldwide. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has hired Brook Colangelo as their chief information officer, reporting to ceo Linda Zecher. Colangelo has been CIO for American in the Executive Office of the President of the United States of America since 2009. Antony Topping has been named managing director of UK literary agency Greene & Heaton, where he has worked since 1995.
