Peter Biskind‘s forthcoming STAR: How Warren Beatty Seduced America draws headlines for its estimate that the movie star slept with almost 13,000 women over the years. Attorney Bert Fields denies the accusations, along with a contention in the NY Post that the book was authorized by Beatty.People Meanwhile, Elizabeth Gilbert‘s COMMITTED, which publishes tomorrow, is covered widely, including a Q&A with author Ann Patchett in the WSJ. One of the 2009’s sales all-stars announced a new book for early next year: Jeff Kinney’s The Wimpy Kid Movie Diary will have a one-day national lay-down on Tuesday, March 16. Following our story yesterday on high-profile pre-orders for which Amazon has dropped the ebook price to $7.99, we found a host of other popular current titles also offered below the $9.99 price point, including: Wolf Hall  ($8.80); The Help  ($7.60); The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson ($7.99); Pursuit of Honor ($8.00); What the Dog Saw: And Other Adventures ($9.00); and Beautiful Creatures ($9.00). BN.com basically matches Amazon’s pricing. Meanwhile, though Twelve is releasing Ted Kennedy’s TRUE COMPASS as an ebook later this month, they have postponed a trade paperback edition until 2011. More Hunger Games Set for August

Scholastic announced the third book in Suzanne Collins Hunger Games trilogy, following this September’s release of Catching Fire, will be published on August 24, 2010. They will issue a trade paperback version of the first book, The Hunger Games, on July 6, 2010. So far, the first two hardcovers have over 1.5 million copies in print.

Random Moves Up McCann Paperback, and More Announcements

Random House Trade Paperbacks has moved up publication of the trade paperback edition of National Book Award-winning novel LET THE GREAT WORLD SPIN by Colum McCann from next spring to December 4. They say they are printing 100,000 copies. PJ Mark, formerly an agent and international rights director at McCormick & Williams, will join Janklow & Nesbit Associates in January as an agent, to expand his list of award-winning young talent in fiction, nonfiction, and graphic novels. Wiley has signed with the Copyright Clearance Center to use their Rightslink service as the online licensing solution for their journals and books. […]

Harlequin Adds Self-Publishing Line

Following the same model as Thomas Nelson’s recently-announced WestBow Press, Harlequin has started a self-publishing line. Like Nelson, they are outsourcing most of the work to Author Solutions as their partner. Unlike Nelson, they aren’t afraid to use their own name for the line, which is called Harlequin Horizons.
