Harper announced that it will publish a memoir by former White House coronavirus response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx. Silent Invasion: The Untold Story of The Trump Administration, COVID-19, and Preventing the Next Pandemic Before It’s Too Late will publish on April 26. SVP & director of creative development Lisa Sharkey acquired the book, with Matt Harper editing, represented by Jeff Carneal. Cancelled: Jumi Bello’s The Leaving

Riverhead has cancelled Jumi Bello’s debut novel THE LEAVING, about a young Black woman dealing with an unexpected pregnancy, which was set to be published on July 12. A high profile title, the book had appeared on multiple anticipated lists. Metadata for the book has been removed from online booksellers. Bello did not respond to queries about the cancellation, nor did Riverhead or Amy Williams, who sold the book and reportedly no longer represents Bello.

Imprints: Penguin Young Readers Launches Rocky Pond Books

Penguin Young Readers will launch Rocky Pond Books, led by Lauri Hornik, who has been publisher at Dial Books for Young Readers. The imprint will publish fiction and nonfiction for age two through teen “with a focus on mental health and social-emotional learning and on seeking out exceptional debut authors and illustrators.” Rocky Pond’s first list will publish in spring 2023. “Above all, I am committed to publishing mental health content – books that start conversations, that provide a step toward healing, and that show readers they aren’t alone,” Hornik said in a release. “I’m so excited to now be dedicating myself […]
