Obama’s Becoming Sells 1.4 Million Units In First Week
On Wednesday afternoon Penguin Random House said that former First Lady Michelle Obama’s BECOMING sold more than 1.4 million units in all formats in the US and Canada during the first week on sale. Previously they reported opening-day sales of 725,000 units, indicating strong continuing sales through the week. NPD Bookscan tracked sales of almost 698,000 hardcovers for Becoming in the opening week. Obama’s Becoming Sells Over 725,000 Units On First Day
Crown reported Friday afternoon that former First Lady Michelle Obama’s BECOMING sold more than 725,000 units in all formats and editions in the US and Canada (including pre-orders) on the first day of its publication, November 13. As previously reported, they initially printed 1.8 million hardcovers for North America, and now the company says it has gone back to press for another 800,000 hardcover.
Revised Count Has Woodward’s FEAR Selling 900,000 Units on First Day
Simon & Schuster announced Tuesday that Bob Woodward’s FEAR: Trump in the White House sold a total of more than 1,100,000 units in all formats its first week on sale, inclusive of consumer orders “that are as yet unfulfilled due to extraordinary demand.” The company revised its count of opening day sales as well, now saying they sold 900,000 units (rather than the 750,000 units first announced), “attributable to delayed reporting of the ebook and digital audio editions.” Bookscan registers approximately 343,000 hardcovers sold in the same period through the outlets that they track. Strong Opening Demand for Woodward’s FEAR
On Monday Simon & Schuster said they had gone back to press six times for one million hardcover copies of Bob Woodward’s FEAR about of Tuesday’s release, but inventory already looks tight after a strong first day on sale. Barnes & Noble reports that the book recorded the fastest sales for an adult title for them since the big release of Harper Lee’s Go Set a Watchman in July 2015.
