Marjorie Braman, 60, died July 2 at her home in Taghkanic, NY of complications from breast cancer. She began her 26 years in publishing as an editorial assistant and worked her way up to svp, publishing director at HarperCollins and then vp, editor-in-chief at Henry Holt. She has worked as a consultant at Open Road Integrated Media. Authors she worked with include Elmore Leonard, Michael Crichton and Sena Jeter Naslund. The Walker Books Group has hired Lucy Pleydell-Pearce for the new global role of senior group and intercompany sales manager, starting July 6. Barnes & Noble has appointed Ronald D. Boire, currently president & chief executive officer of Sears Canada, as ceo of its retail business, effective September 8. Boire will succeed Michael Huseby who — as announced last week — will become executive chairman of Barnes & Noble Education once the company is formally spun off as a separate public company.
